FAQ
The Details Before You Listen.
Everything people ask before they send Speek their first document. Something missing? Write to hello@getspeek.com.
The Basics
What is Speek?
Speek reads your documents aloud in a natural voice. Send it a PDF, a slide deck, a link, pasted text or an AI research report, and it prepares a reading you can listen to on a walk, a drive or a run.
Which devices does Speek run on?
iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and Mac (macOS 14 or later). It is one app on the App Store for both, with one Up Next queue, so you can capture on your Mac and listen on your phone.
When can I use it?
Speek is in private testing. Join the waitlist on the home page and we will email you when your account is ready.
What is the best app to listen to PDFs and documents?
It depends on what you read. Speek is built for long documents such as reports, research papers, board packs, slide decks and AI research, on iPhone and Mac. ElevenReader gives the most free listening, Speechify the most languages and the fastest speeds. Our dated guide compares them fairly at getspeek.com/best-apps-to-listen-to-pdfs.
Is Speek a Speechify alternative?
Yes, for long English documents: Speek skips page clutter, reads tables as sentences and costs $89.99 a year against Speechify Premium at $139 (checked 28 October 2026). Speechify is better for many languages, speeds above 2× and scanning printed pages. See getspeek.com/speek-vs-speechify.
Can Speek turn ChatGPT deep research into audio?
Yes. Copy the report, share its link or export it as a PDF, send it to Speek and choose Read All. One voice reads every section in order; a 6,000 word report is about 40 minutes. Claude and Gemini research works the same way.
Does Speek turn my file into a conversation?
No. Some AI audio tools turn your file into two hosts talking about it. Speek uses one voice reading your document, in your order, so the numbers and sections you need are still there.
Documents and Accuracy
What can I send to Speek?
PDFs, PowerPoint and Keynote decks, Word documents, web links and pasted text, including AI research reports and notes from your AI assistant. On iPhone you share from any app; on Mac you press Control Option S.
What is the difference between Read All, Focused and TLDR?
Read All reads every section in order, lightly rewritten for listening. Focused keeps the full argument and drops boilerplate, legal footers and repeated slides, so it is an edit rather than the full text. TLDR gives you the point, the evidence and what to do next in a few minutes.
Does Speek change my document?
Read All only rewrites for the ear: tables become sentences, charts are described and page clutter is skipped. It is built to keep every section in order. When a detail matters, check it against the source in the script view.
How are tables, charts and slides read?
Tables are read as sentences that compare the numbers. Charts are described in plain words. Slides are read in order with the slide title first, so you can follow a deck without seeing it.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
Speek reads the text in a document. A scan with no text layer may not read well yet; if a file cannot be read, Speek tells you why instead of playing something wrong.
Listening
Which voices are there?
19 female and male voices chosen for long documents, and every one is on every plan, Free included. Richer voices use time a little faster and lighter voices stretch it further. Hear Chris and Matilda on the home page, and switch voice while a document is playing.
Can I change the speed?
Yes, from 0.75× to 2×, while it reads. Speek remembers your choice.
Does it keep playing when my phone is locked?
Yes. Speek plays with the screen locked, with play, pause and skip on the lock screen and your headphones.
Can I listen offline?
Yes. Turn on Keep on This Device and the audio is saved to your phone, so it plays without a connection.
Privacy
Is my content used to train models?
No. We do not train models on your documents, scripts or audio. Our AI providers process them only to read your document aloud.
Can I delete my documents?
Yes. You can delete a document and its audio at any time. With Keep on This Device, we delete our copy as soon as the audio reaches your phone, or within 24 hours if it is never collected.
Pricing and Teams
How much does Speek cost?
